On to the Auctiva template installation tutorial
I am going to try to make this as
easy and as painless as possible with as many image examples as possible.
1.) Sign into your Auctiva account.
You can get there by clicking here.
2.) Point your cursor to the
"listings" link at the top to open a drop down menu box. Then click on
the "create new" under the "custom templates" as shown in the image below.
This will take you to the page where
you are going to install your into your template into your Auctiva account. Later I will show you how to manage and
edit your installed templates.
The next few steps will be using the
3.) Lets start by giving your
template a name. When you are creating your listings for eBay and get to the
part to pick your template, this is the name that will be displayed so you may
want to make sure you give it a name that will help you remember what specific
template it is.
4.) Next is optional, you can add a
thumbnail for your template. This will give you a small picture to help you
remember what this template looks like when you are choosing which template to
use for your listings. Again, this is optional. If you have the ability to take
a screen shot and edit an image you can create you a picture or if
you are skilled enough to grab a graphic from the template, save the graphic to
your computer and upload it that way. If you don't have that ability, it's okay.
This is just an option. It doesn't have to have a thumbnail but it does have to
have a template name.
5.) Now lets get that template
installed. Unfortunately it's not as easy as copy, paste, and save. You will
have to do a little editing to the template code for it to work with Auctiva. In
the picture above you will see on the left the "custom template tags". In order
for Auctiva to know where to insert your specific information and pictures into
the template, it has to find specific codes. If you click on the tags: title,
description, shipping, payment, ect. you will see how it inserts those specific
tags in the text box to the right. They will look like this:
[PAYMENT] [TERMS_OF_SALE] [ABOUT_ME] [CONTACT_US]
If these exact codes are not
inserted into your template code then Auctiva will not know where to insert your
specific information into the template. Same as with your images but we will
tackle that next.
6.) So, how do you do this, simple.
Copy the html code from the template you wish to install, whether you are
getting it directly from the justonemoreanimation.com website or if it's been
e-mailed to you. Copy the entire html code and paste it into the text box, make
sure you have erased the specific codes mentioned above when testing the tags.
Start with a clean text box.
Now we will add Auctiva's specific
codes into the template. All templates from Justonemoreanimation have been
created to be as user friendly as possible. You should be able to easily locate
each placement. If your code was e-mailed to you on a word-pad then all these
places will be highlighted in blue. If you copied the code from the website,
there is not an ability to highlight the code but it has been made with spaces
so they jump out at you easier. An example code is shown in the image below:
First locate the ADD YOUR TITLE HERE
and replace it with [TITLE] Do the same for the description,
payment, shipping, and terms of sale. These are the most common 5 terms used in
a template. Sometimes the template may come with returns, contact us, ect. If
the template does not already have these places in the code, you can still add
Auctiva's codes for these anywhere you want them to be in the template. I
recommend placing them all in the "terms of sale" locations, but it's whatever
you need. make sure the new codes are exactly as shown within the [ and ]
brackets and all caps. Less chance of errors.
7.) Now it's time to insert the
image codes. This can be a little tricky as there are several ways you can have
your images displayed with Auctiva. This may be something you want to play
around with until you find the option that works best for you.
The image on the left is what you should see under where the
custom template tags are. There are several ways you can determine how your pictures
are displayed in your template.
If you open the drop down menu under "choose image type" as
shown in the picture to the left, you will see 6 different options to choose
from. The last three options that include the "image url" is just that, you
insert each individual url into the template. I personally have not used these
options so I will be skipping them. We will use the options that let's Auctiva
automatically insert the pictures for you.
Let's start with the first one, Auctiva image layout.
If you look to the image at the right, you will see how when you choose this
option it provides a few more choices above the menu bar. These I find are the
easiest ones to use. Your choices are: Vertical, horizontal, paired, slideshow,
and thumbnails. Clicking on these will insert the required code to produce that
selection of image showcase. These are the codes used:
As you can see the tags needed are pretty simple. Inside the [
and ] brackets, IMGS to specify picture
_ lower slash to separate your choice of
vertical, horizontal, paired, slideshow, or thumbnail. The vertical simply
displays your photos no larger than 400 pixels wide stacked vertical. Horizontal
the same only stacked horizontally, paired will showcase them vertically in
pairs, slideshow will create a "slideshow" and thumbnails will provide
thumbnails about 96 pixel that are clickable to view enlarge.
The other options given in the drop down menu are "standard 400
x 300". This option simply displays them vertically at a set size of no larger
than 400 x 300. You will be able to view your listing before you publish it to
make sure your pictures are displayed how you want them and correctly. For now
lets just pick an option. Let's go with the standard [IMGS_VERTICAL] copy
that entire code and go back to your html code that is already pasted in the
text box. Now scroll through the code starting from the top and look for the
picture area that will look like this:
<p align="center"><img src="ADD YOUR PHOTO ADDRESS HERE"></p>
I always put 3 of those picture codes in every template.
Normally they are 3 right in a row. Basically you want to replace the:
<img src="ADD YOUR PHOTO ADDRESS HERE">
I would leave the <p align="center"> and the end code
this is the html code to center your images. So, your new picture code should
look like this:
And that's it. You DO NO put it 3 times but only once. This code
will display all the pictures you pick to display in your template. This is the
same with all 5 options listed above, only paste 1 code. There are other picture
choices where you may need to add more than one code but I am just sticking to
the simple basics for now. Once you get
the hang of it you can play around with all the image tag options given to you
on the left, but this should get your started. Once you are finished inserted all
your tags you can save and view your template.
You will find the above save buttons below your template text
box. You can click the "save and preview" button to save your template and it
will open a new window for you to see your template. If all your tags are
correct you will see Auctiva's messages in your template.
8.) To get to your saved templates to edit or view, go back up
to the "listings" link when you first started at the top of the page and click
on the "manage" option in the drop down menu. This will take you to all of your
9.) Now, how to choose one of your saved templates in your
listing. Go ahead and create your new listing as normal. Fill in all your
information as usual even pick all your images for your listing. Fill in all
your terms, description ect. and continue down the page until you get to where
you pick your template, as shown in the image below.
Click on the blue box that says "select template". This will
bring up a window with Auctiva's templates on the right and a scroll box on the
left with category choices. (shown below) Scroll through the choices and click
on the "custom" option. This is where all your installed templates will be
If you uploaded a thumbnail for your template you will see that
on the left along with the title you named it. Otherwise you will just see the
title and a blank thumbnail. Select your template and continue. When you get to
the bottom of your listings you can click to preview your listing with your new
template. If you don't like the way the pictures are laid out you can always go
back and change your picture options by going to "manage".
